Performance Improvement Quarterly Seeks Editor

The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is looking for a new editor to serve a three-year term for our acclaimed journal, Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ). PIQ is a highly respected journal in the field of human performance technology (HPT) and human resources, entering it’s 26thyear of publication. As a peer-reviewed journal its goal is to stimulate professional discussion and to advance the research and discipline of performance technology through the publication of scholarly works.

PIQ emphasizes original work involving technologies such as analysis or evaluation as well as interventions such as motivation, personnel selection, instruction/training, performance aids, or performance guidance. PIQ is published by John Wiley & Sons in cooperation with ISPI.

The editor should have an understanding of the practice of human performance technology as well as its theoretical underpinnings. The editor must be able to recognize sound applications of performance technology (especially in the workplace) which are supported by the use of theory. The editor must be able to identify valid research and practice related to the field of performance improvement. 

The editor, who guides the journal and coordinates the review of manuscripts, receives a modest per-issue stipend. Key editorial tasks include:

  • Coordinating the review of submitted manuscripts by peer reviewers. 
  • Developing and monitoring the peer review process as a whole. 
  • Coordinating editorial production processes efforts with ISPI and John Wiley & Sons.
  • Coordinating and working on editorial direction with ISPI. 
  • Managing an editorial advisory board and working with the editorial advisory board to develop a strategic editorial plan that sets directions and themes for coming issues and continues to support and improve the journal’s quality, relevance, and significance.

Applicants should have an understanding of the practice of human performance technology as well as its theoretical underpinnings. Applicants must be able to recognize sound applications of performance technology (especially in the workplace) which are supported by the use of theory. Applicants must be able to identify valid research and practice related to the field of performance improvement. 

Applicants must have excellence organization and communication (both oral and written) skills. In addition to the skills described above, a history of scholarly publishing, a doctorate degree(PhD, EdD), strong knowledge of APA Style are required, CPT designation preferred but not required. Prior editorial experience with peer-reviewed publications is preferred.
